Welcome to Animal of the Week (1.4), brought to you by

"Animal of the Week" for the weeks of November 2 - 15, 2008 is the endangered Siberian White Tiger. These animals have been a favorite of poachers which kill them for their fur, and also their organs and body parts, which in some cultures are very valuable because they are thought bring healing. Destruction of natural areas where these tigers live also reduces their numbers. These tigers live in eastern Russia, and in 1985 only 250 Siberian White Tigers were found in a wildlife survey of the area. In 1996-1997, a World Wildlife Fund survey estimated the Siberian White Tiger population at 415 to 475 tigers, due at least in part to crackdowns on poaching. With continued protection, the Siberian White Tiger will recover to a population size that will not be considered endangered or threatened. (Source: Popular Science, July, 1997). All tigers, including the more familiar orange and black tigers, and the Tasmanian tiger, are endangered.

What is the relation of endangered animals to getting good grades?

A-Star Research Inc., publisher and distributor of "How to Get Good Grades In College," is a company of environmentally friendly people, who have a deep commitment to improving this world socially (such as by helping college students get good grades), and environmentally (such as by raising awareness of endangered animals).

In addition to protecting endangered animals, three other very important environmental concerns are recycling, the need to protect forests, and global climate change.
